The Shia Muslim Council of Australia (SMCA) is an umbrella organisation that brings together Shia Muslim communities from around Australia. Its main purposes are:

  • To facilitate positive engagement and mutual respect and harmony between the Muslim community and the wider Australian community.
  • To advocate for the rights of Australian Muslims in practising their faith freely

The organisation was formed in 2024 to bring together member organisations within the Shia Muslim community to work in a coordinated manner towards shared goals, and to have a coordinated and unified representation to the government and media.

It currently has 33 member organisations from the 8 states and territories in Australia.

For details of the organisation’s activities see the posts below and check out our various committee pages.
